Dr. Patricia Timerman Barbosa da Silva is the author of the coming book “Why Are We Fighting: Actionable Strategies for Effective Communication,” where she talks about her IAP Model - Intention Action Perception - which she calls the “Google Translate” of communication. Dr. Timerman is a psychotherapist with over 12 years of experience. Since opening her practice in 2012, Advocate2Create, Dr. Timerman has been providing individual, couples, and family therapy, psychoeducational workshops and consultations. In addition to her focus on interpersonal communication, Dr. Timerman‘s areas of specialization also include anxiety management, grief with the focus on suicide grief, and composing clinical evaluations for immigration purposes.  You can find more information on Dr. Timerman at the links below:

Long Bio:

Dr. Patricia Timerman Barbosa da Silva is the author of the coming book “Why Are We Fighting: Actionable Strategies for Effective Communication,” where she talks about her IAP Model - Intention Action Perception - which she calls the “Google Translate” of communication. Dr. Timerman is a psychotherapist with over 12 years of experience. Since opening her practice in 2012, Advocate2Create, Dr. Timerman has been providing individual, couples, and family therapy, psychoeducational workshops and consultations. IN addition to developing her model, Dr. Timerman has devoted much of her work towards grief and immigration, focusing on suicide grief and on composing clinical evaluations for immigration purposes for over a decade. 

From a grief perspective, Dr. Timerman has not only devoted a large portion of her professional and academic/ research endeavors in further understanding and working with suicide grief, but she has also had a personal experience with it, being a survivors of suicide grief herself. In additiont to grief, Dr. Timerman also work with trauma survivorship, including past experiences of physical, psychological, and emotional abuse.

Couple Therapy/ Communication:

Through her work with couples and her own experiences, Dr. Timerman has developed the IAP Model: Intention Action Perception, which serves as a "Google Translate" of communication. In using her IAP Model, Dr. Timerman strive to help her clients identify and implement actionable strategies and communication tool to better help them understand one another, and essentially, create their own language, making sure that their communication stops getting lost in translation. She also like to integrate components from Gottman and Chapman in her work with couples.

Anxiety Management:

Moreover, through her own struggles with anxiety, Dr. Timerman has focused on actionable coping skills for managing anxiety. You can check some of the videos/worksheet Dr. Timermah has created in Advocate2Create’s training platform: Advocate2Create.Teachabe.com.

Clinical Evaluation for Immigration Purposes:

As for composing clinical evaluations for immigration purposes, Dr. Timerman has extensive experience and expertise in the matter, having had the unique opportunity of working at an Immigration Law Firm while pursuing her Master’s Degree in Psychotherapy. Dr. Timerman composes clinical evaluation for VAWA, U-Visa, T-Visa, Asylum, and Extreme Hardship Waiver.
